MonaLisa Touch Can Help With Post-Pregnancy Vaginal Issues

There’s no question that pregnancy, childbirth, and getting to know your new baby constitute some of the most exciting and joyous times in your life. The changes your body goes through during this period, however, are profound, and often rapid.

Recovery from childbirth takes time and is different for each new mom, depending on how her pregnancy and delivery unfold. Sometimes undesirable changes can take a while to reverse themselves, and you might wonder if some problems will ever go away.

Vaginal issues — from dryness that makes intercourse painful to frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs) — are just some of the challenges we hear a lot about from our postpartum patients.

Dr. Kevin Hooker is intent on making Havasu OB/GYN Care a practice that approaches each woman’s care with a rare combination of compassion and innovation. This is why he offers new mothers experiencing vaginal discomfort an advanced treatment called MonaLisa Touch™.

Will I ever really feel like myself again after having my baby?

It might seem as though you’ll never adjust to the “new normal” that having a baby introduces to your life, but there will be a time when you feel “I’ve got this” more often than not, trust us.

Even though losing the baby weight gets so much attention, the Havasu OB/GYN Care team hears your stories about a general condition known as vaginal atrophy, and how discouraging it is to deal with in the midst of caring for your newborn. Its symptoms include:

Fortunately, MonaLisa Touch offers relief for all of these conditions and not only restores your vaginal elasticity, but stimulates moisture production as well.

How does MonaLisa Touch work?

MonaLisa Touch is a gentle treatment that’s performed with something called a CO2 fractional laser. It stimulates collagen and elastin production in the vaginal tissue through the selective application of heat. These are both proteins that restore elasticity in tissues throughout your body.

A MonaLisa treatment, which typically takes less than five minutes, isn’t painful. Dr. Hooker gently inserts the slim MonaLisa Touch probe into your vagina where it delivers heat from its sides. He pinpoints areas he wants to treat, and the heat penetrates both your surface and deep tissues.

MonaLisa Touch is minimally invasive, comfortable, quick, effective, and Dr. Hooker and his team are delighted to be able to offer it to you. With so much attention going to the new family member — which is as it should be — you still need to prioritize your healing and comfort.

What is a typical course of MonaLisa Touch treatment?

Dr. Hooker usually provides you with three MonaLisa Touch treatments, and allots six weeks between them, but you’ll feel improvement after the very first one. You should refrain from sexual activity for 2-3 days after your treatment, and he also advises you about whether you’ll need annual follow-up treatment.

Having a healthy, happy mom is the best thing for your baby
